FAQ
What is a Farm Box?
Gather Farm and Kitchen sells what we call a “farm box” but what that usually refers to is our seasonal CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). A CSA allows farms to have customers pay up-front/in advance for products. This allows farms to plan, invest, and grow what is needed for their customers.
How does it work?
Once you have ordered, you will receive an email confirmation of your purchase. We will then prepare and pack you order for delivery (or pick-up) on Wednesday mornings. We deliver in reusable totes so after your first week, please leave your previous tote at your front door for us to pick up on your next delivery. The totes are sanitized and used again and again.
What can I expect in my Farm Box?
We grow a variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. We plan this in December of the previous year and hope (pray, do a rain dance) that our crops will be successful. Every year has its challenges and successes. When we have an abundance of something, you will benefit by getting more! With that being said, we include root vegetables (such as potatoes or carrots), storage vegetables (squash and onions), cooking greens (kale, chard, etc), salad greens (arugula, microgreens, etc), and “fruit”- as in, tomatoes, pumpkins, apples, pears, etc. We carefully curate each week’s box to make sense for the home cook. Tomatoes with basil. Butternut squash with thyme. Cooking greens with garlic and onion. We also pride ourselves in offering some extra special treats for Thanksgiving such as our fresh Cranberry Sauce, and add-ons such as chicken stock, bread for stuffing, and desserts.
We also want to encourage people to store and preserve some of the ingredients if they won’t use it weekly. Squash stores at room temperature all winter long. Tomatoes are easily frozen. We will offer tips for you in your weekly newsletter to make the most of the harvest.
What are my payment options?
Ordering online is processed on a credit card. Alternatively, if you would like to pay cash/Email Money Transfer, please contact us for arrangements.
Is there a lot of packaging?
We have eliminated single-use plastics with our farm products. And the packaging we do use can be reused, recycled, or composted. If you receive cooking or salad greens in your Farm Box, they will come in reusable containers that you leave in your tote for us to pick up the following week. We sanitize all the containers so that we can continue to offer more delicate items like microgreens and salad greens without using petroleum-based single use plastics.
What if I won’t be home?
The products will be in a sealed tote, and in the cooler months will be okay to sit outside for a little bit. If you plan to be away, please email us before Wednesday for options.
How can I order Add-Ons?
We offer our Farm Box customers the ability to add-on some of your market favourites such as baked goods, preserves, and prepared foods. By Monday, you will receive a newsletter with what to expect for the week, a recipe using that week’s ingredients, and a link to the latest menu of Add-Ons. Please note that the menu changes weekly and inventory is limited.
